Toronto and Region Conservation Foundation – Board Member Application

Toronto and Region Conservation Foundation (TRCF) is seeking a Call for Nominations to fill up to two (2) vacancies.


Currently, there are ten (10) Directors, with three (3) positions being filled by Toronto and Region Conservation Authority’s (TRCA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), TRCA’s Chair of the Board of Directors, and one member of TRCA’s Senior Leadership Team.

TRCF Board of Directors eligibility shall be subject to the conditions laid out in the Call for Nominations and based on previous Board experience and background as determined by the Nomination Committee.

The Nomination Committee shall seek appointments based on a merit-based system for composition that reflects a diverse and inclusive culture which solicits multiple perspectives and views and is free of conscious or unconscious bias and discrimination.

Call for Nominations to Join Toronto and Region Conservation Foundation (TRCF) Board of Directors

Position(s): Up to two (2) positions available – Board Member at Large

Organization: Toronto and Region Conservation Foundation (TRCF) (fundraising arm of Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA))
Start Date: September 2025
Term: 3 Years
Commitment: 2 hours/meeting (quarterly) plus attendance at events and sub-committee meetings (as required)

TRCF is seeking passionate, motivated, and committed individuals in community conservation initiatives to join our Board of Directors. There are up to two (2) Director vacancies. Candidates must show interest in and commitment to environmental conservation and community engagement efforts within the Greater Toronto Area region.

We are recruiting new directors with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Corporate Fundraising
  • Community Outreach
  • Development
  • Finance
  • Legal
  • Marketing and Public Relations

Directors support our mission, act as key spokespersons, and drive grant-search and corporate fundraising. We are seeking those who will bring the right values, skills, attitudes, and commitment to help TRCF grow its profile across the region. Prior board experience is an asset.

WHO WE ARE

TRCF is a registered charity that serves as the fundraising and charitable arm of TRCA. TRCF exists to connect, engage, and inspire people and organizations to donate and support the work of TRCA – one of the largest environmental organizations in Canada.

Working with partners across Toronto and surrounding regions, TRCA enriches communities and enhances quality of life through:

  • Habitat restoration projects that protect Toronto and GTA greenspace and local wildlife;
  • Flood, climate change, and water monitoring efforts that make the Toronto region safe;
  • Learning, training, and mentorship programs that empower and inspire people of all ages; and
  • Parks and greenspace, trails, activities, and attractions that bring families and communities together and make a positive impact on our health.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD

TRCF’s Board of Directors are primarily responsible for governance and oversight. Directors shall represent the Foundation through meetings with donors and stakeholders.

Directors are expected to:

  • Maintain knowledge of TRCA’s current activities and major projects, and advocate for the work and mission of the organization;
  • Attend and support TRCF events;
  • Leverage networks and relationships to raise awareness about TRCF priorities;
  • Identify new funding opportunities; and
  • Make an annual contribution to the Foundation.
