The Medicine Wheel Garden (Gitigaan Mashkiki) at Heart Lake Conservation Area is a sacred space for healing, learning, and community connection.
This living cultural site offers school groups, community members, and visitors a meaningful way to engage with Indigenous teachings, traditions, and ceremony.

The Gitigaan Mashkiki serves as a powerful symbol of interconnectedness, reflecting the teachings of the Medicine Wheel and honouring Indigenous ways of knowing.
Together, with the dedicated guidance of our Indigenous partners at Four Colours Drum Circle, we:
-
-
- Care for and maintain the garden’s array of diverse traditional plants and ceremonial spaces
- Offer community engagement and stewardship opportunities
- Support school group programming and activities
- Host an annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation ceremony, offering a space for learning and collective remembrance

Our Partners
The continued success of the Medicine Wheel Garden is rooted in the strong relationships we have built with our Indigenous partners.
The Four Colours Drum Circle are true Watershed Champions – their leadership in ceremony, traditional teachings, and ongoing care has transformed the garden into a cherished space for students, residents, and community groups alike.
By sharing their knowledge and engaging visitors in traditional protocols and teachings, they help deepen public understanding of Indigenous culture and the importance of land-based learning.
