Congratulations York Region!
The Bayview Avenue Corridor Project is an outstanding example of York Region’s commitment to sustainable communities. The project was driven by the sustainability principles of quality communities, an enhanced environment and infrastructure for a growing community and engaged communities. The project is in an ecologically sensitive area with artesian groundwater conditions, provincially significant wetlands, the Oak Ridges Moraine, and some of the highest quality cold-water aquatic habitat in TRCA’s jurisdiction.
York Region project teams showed leadership, creativity and innovation in developing and implementing a context sensitive ecological design with a net ecological gain. This award-winning project improved mobility for all corridor users through increased road capacity, sidewalks and a multi-use path. The successful dewatering strategy, combined with the infiltration gallery, ensures the newly constructed fish channel and habitat perform according to plan.
