Help Protect and Enhance an Urban Wilderness
Tommy Thompson Park is located on a man-made peninsula, known as the Leslie Street Spit, which extends five kilometres into Lake Ontario.
The goals of the park master plan include:
- Preserving significant species
- Protecting environmentally significant areas
- Enhancing aquatic and terrestrial habitats
Tommy Thompson Park represents one of the largest existing areas of natural habitat along the Toronto waterfront. Birds and other wildlife flourish in habitats that include wildflower meadows, cottonwood forests, coastal marshes, cobble beaches, and sand dunes.
Tommy Thompson Park provides one of the best nature-watching areas in the Greater Toronto Area.
