Approximately 75% of flowering plants depend on pollinators, including most of our fruits and vegetables. Canada is home to over 1,000 species of pollinators, but these populations are threatened. Planting native meadow, wetland or water-loving plants around our properties can provide food sources for pollinators, reduce water runoff, and offer safe shelter for birds and other wildlife!
Don’t know what is native to our region, what is and isn’t a weed, or how to plant and care for pollinator plants throughout the year? Our partner organization, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), has you covered! Check out TRCA’s resources for inspiration, information and tools to create your own pollinator habitat in 2021 and join us in supporting LAND! Even if you have a small outdoor space, you can create a biodiverse micro-spot with meadow plants grown in flowerpots or window boxes!
